Hutto PD and Partner Agencies Respond to Barricaded Subject Incident

HUTTO, TX, August 13, 2025 – On August 12, 2025, at approximately 8:30 PM the Hutto Police Department responded to a welfare check at a residence in the 100 block of Caponi Fish Ln. Upon arrival, the situation escalated into a barricaded subject incident involving weapons, prompting the deployment of additional resources and support to the scene.

A Hutto Police Department officer engaged the subject via phone, attempting to de-escalate the situation over an extended period. As a precautionary measure, residents in close proximity were sent a shelter in place text message via the Warn Central Texas system. Residents should sign up for notifications at www.warncentraltexas.org.

Despite prolonged negotiation efforts, the situation could not be resolved through dialogue. The Hutto Police Department’s Special Response Team (SRT), with assistance from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, safely gained entry into the residence and located one deceased adult male identified as Shawn Yi, age 49. No foul play is suspected. The scene was subsequently deemed safe, allowing nearby residents to return to their homes. No police officers or sheriff’s deputies fired their weapons, and no force was used against the deceased. No persons were arrested, and no officer injuries were reported.

Hutto Fire Rescue remained on scene as a precaution and assisted in investigating the smoke and fire in the garage area once the situation was secured.

The Hutto Police Department extends its gratitude to the community for their support and understanding during this critical incident. We remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Hutto residents.
